MASK WORKSHOP the 21.-23. August 2026
Let the Mask Find the Play,
3-day intensive at Wick Farm
Masks teach the performer awareness and control of movement and gesture. Working with masks demands clarity: discovering essential gestures while letting go of what is unnecessary and distracting. The mask enlarges the performer’s presence, sharpening projection, playfulness, and precision.
Through physical play, improvisation, and movement, participants are guided toward a state where the body leads and the mask becomes the teacher. Here, acting becomes simpler, bolder, and more alive — less effort, more truth.
During the intensive, we explore expressive masks, larva masks, oriental masks, and dumpster masks. Through movement, improvisation, and physical play, participants develop clear body language, essential gesture, and a refined awareness of energy. Mask work teaches us to do only what is necessary — letting go of excess and allowing each action to be meaningful.
The workshop is open to everyone interested in the power of masks — whether you are a performer, dancer, teacher, sculptor, artist, writer, or simply curious about the joy and transformation that working with masks can offer.
Teacher:
The workshop is led by Ruth Lerche, performer, director, and instructor educated at the École Internationale de Théâtre Jacques Lecoq in Paris 1996. She has taught physical theatre, mask, and clown at The Commedia School since 2002 and has been its artistic leader since 2017. Ruth works internationally and is known for her precise, playful, and generous teaching approach, guiding participants toward deeper physical intelligence and creative freedom.
Location:
The workshop takes place at Wick Farm, home of Awakenings at Wick — a unique creative sanctuary dedicated to making the world more colourful and beautiful. Surrounded by nature, participants are invited to slow down, connect with the land, and fully immerse themselves in the work.
